Packing Guide

IntlMOVE UK can provide all of the boxing and wrapping materials for your shipping needs.
We will pack your entire shipment or just your choice of fragile items; such as computers, stemware, glass-top furniture, and televisions.
Should you prefer to pack on your own, please use the following guidelines:
- Do not overfill or under fill your boxes – they need to be stackable.
- Use sturdy boxes – corrugated cardboard boxes work well.
- Heavier items like books and tools should be packed in smaller boxes.
- Reinforce the bottom of the boxes with a good quality packing tape – in fact double tape the bottom of each box.
- One person should easily be able to lift the box.
- For kitchen items – utensils, pots / pans – conserve space by packing items within items.
- Larger, heavier, items – dishes, platters etc. need to be placed in the bottom of a box first; then smaller items on top.
- Dishes / plates need cushioning in-between them and should be vertically placed in the box. Dinnerware, stemware, silverware, small glassed frames and collectibles (fragile pieces) must be wrapped in paper one-by-one.
- Paper for dish and fragile packing should be about three inches thick and line the bottom of the box, with two inches of paper between the layers of items and two inches of paper for extra cushioning on top is advisable.
- Bedding, pillows, towels, clothing, and curtains should be folded and packed compactly in bureau drawers or in new boxes. Never put any heavy or unsecured item in the bureau drawer – the item as well as the drawer could be damaged while in transit.
- Artwork and mirrors: securely wrapped in special boxes called mirror cartons.
- Lamps: lampshades and bulbs need to be removed. Wrap lamps in linen and pack separately in clean boxes. Wrap shades with tissue paper and pack in large linen boxes.
- Area rugs and carpets should be rolled tightly and securely wrapped in heavy-duty plastic.
- Empty fuel from any and all power tools. Use small boxes for tools: pack breakables separately. NEVER ship flammable fuel.
